About the Show:  “Love Letters” is comprised of letters exchanged over a lifetime between two people who grew up together, went their separate ways, but continued to share confidences. Andy and Melissa, both born to wealth and position, are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with a birthday party thank-you note and summer camp postcards. They continue to exchange letters through boarding school, college years and beyond.  By A.R. Gurney

ABOUT THE READINGS...

The fireside has always been a gathering place, a place for sharing stories and discovering oneself, a place for revealing secrets and discovering hidden truths, a place of honesty and fantasy, personal and tribal connection. The Fireside Reading Series has been created in an effort to promote these ideals by increasing the range of theatrical experiences available to local audiences, while creating a forum for the artistic voices of aspiring local producers, actors, directors and playwrights.  In a world where it is not always financially feasible for a theatre to explore the untested, or for artists to make their living strictly as artists, the Fireside Reading series is designed to help bridge those gaps.

Each month, a different piece is selected for exploration onstage.  Selections range from Sophocles and Shakespeare to Shaw, Sheppard and beyond.  The series serves as a supportive testing ground for new voices, a place for unique or untried approaches and for seldom done or little known pieces a theatre could not normally take a chance on.  In this way, we hope to provide an eclectic selection of enjoyable, thought-provoking, theatrical experiences.

The process itself is simple.  The director and producer select a cast.  The group does a read-through, generally followed by three to five rehearsals focused on discovering the playwright’s basic intentions and conjoining them with the director’s vision for the play.  Then, script-in-hand, it is presented before an audience.

Due to the nature of the process and the type of works being selected, the audience is invited to stay and participate in a brief  open-forum discussion period following the reading.

Interesting live theatre for a donation equal to the price of going to the movies !
